5 Simple Steps to Detox Your Wardrobe
Every other month my closet resembles a mini-disaster. Piles and piles of ‘nothing to wear.’ Sound familiar? Yes, the struggle is real. How many of us wake up every morning to ‘a closet full of clothes but nothing to wear!’ I’m sure the numbers run into millions. As for me, working a 9 to 9 job, 6 days a week gives me little time to get organized. But, I had had enough. My wardrobe needed a major intervention so I decided to break it down and instil some rules. Rules that I have now set in stone!
Delete, Delete, Delete!
Do not hold on to that pair of stone-washed jeans you bought in 2013 in the hope that someday, you might want to wear them again. Let it go! It’s simple, if you have not worn it in 6 months; you’re probably never going to wear it again.
I decided to categorize my ‘piles’ based on occasion. So come up with cute titles like ‘Date Night’, ‘Lunch & Brunch’, ‘Get Fit’, and ‘Sleepy Time’. But, one must honour the piles. Do not mix Date Night with Lunch & Brunch! This will help you find stuff faster and you’ll be less flustered when you want that one particular pair of pants.
Bring out your speakers, put on your favourite tunes and enjoy the absolute chaos that is- your room, in the midst of a closet cleanse!
The Basic Rules of Physics
Place the heavier pieces on the bottom, lighter on top. This will help prevent toppling disasters. If you have hanger space, that’s great! Hang up your fancy shirts, dresses and trousers.
Sharing is Caring
Re-cycle! Those dungarees you bought on a whim 5 years ago might not work for you, but would look great on your younger sisters. I also love giving my old loved clothes to charities.
P.S. H&M is doing awesome things with Re-Cycling old clothes!
So, what are you waiting for? Take out a day and get rid of your closet karma. I had 3 suitcases worth of baggage, which is now, off my back!
