#BackToBasics – how to build a capsule wardrobe

It’s as easy as a pair of black jeans and a white tee.

A capsule wardrobe is a concept created by Susie Faux, a London-based boutique owner. Faux believed that a collection of a few essential, classic pieces in your closet can take you incredibly far in the fashion world. No matter what the trends are, creating a capsule wardrobe can help you stay stylish. So here’s what you need to make sure you’ve got the right fashion building blocks!

1. Decisions, decisions

Think about how many pieces you want and need in your closet; fifteen, maybe twenty? Also think about whether you want to invest in new items, or use ones you already own. Looking at your available clothing options and asking these questions can help you ultimately create the most functional and more importantly, most fun wardrobe!

2. Seasonal style

We recommend switching out your basics for each season, but you may not need to depending on where you live. Assess what you normally wear during the monthly changes, and begin there.

3. Colours of the rainbow

Lastly, decide a colour palette. Consider your style – are you more into monochromatic looks, or do you love flashes of neon and strokes of pigment? Each capsule wardrobe is different, but colours and patterns are a great way to identify which direction your closet will take once you start accumulating style items.

This is the part that we’ve all been looking forward to… Shopping! Here are our favourite picks for items you need to have in your capsule wardrobe.
