A Beauty Addict’s Guide To Surviving A Rainy Day

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been waiting for a day when I can just sit at home and put on a sheet mask for at least 30 minutes. I know, I know, you’ll suggest I do it on a Sunday. But with all the brunches and events that are dotted all over everyone’s calendars this season, it’s next to impossible!

So after wading through waist-deep water yesterday, when I found out today was to be a public holiday, I was more than happy to sit at home. Why? Because I could finally do all those pampering home treatments, without anyone telling me I had another event to attend.

So if you’re bored at home right now, and you’ve finished binge watching Jane The Virgin like I just did, here’s what you can do to feel like a million bucks, even in your pjs.

1. There’s nothing like a hair spa day, at home

Everyone’s mother and grandmother goes on about using hair oil. But for some of us, just the smell of coconut oil can put us off the substance for good. There are obviously other options out there and my favourite one at the moment has got to be L’Oréal’s Mythic Oil. The texture, smell and after effects are heavenly and you won’t cringe while it’s on.

2. Exfoliation is key

A lot of us shave our arms and legs only to be left with ingrowths or rough skin. The key is to exfoliate. You could pick between two options. Either use a pumice stone or a brush to gently scrub your legs and arms (always upwards). Or use a scrub like Soap & Glory’s Flake Away to buff your skin.

3. Moisturise like your life depends on it

I’ll admit, I hardly ever moisturise when I’m in a rush to leave the house. All the scrubbing is great, but none of it matters if you don’t lock in all that goodness. To moisturise and to get rid of any pigmentation or stretch marks you may have, I’d suggest Palmer’s Coco Butter Formula.

4. Don’t ignore your tips and toes

Chances are your salon is shut today, but that doesn’t mean you can’t give yourself a mani-pedi at home. Since you’re already scrubbed and moisturised all that’s left is your favourite shade of nail polish. P.S. Nykaa just launched a whole range of colours inspired by cookies!

5. And finally, sheet mask and sleep

Korean beauty has definitely changed the way I take care of my skin. While I don’t go carrying around fifty different creams and moisturisers, their sheet masks definitely have me hooked. Take your pick depending on your skin type and just let that goodness sink deep into your pores. It doesn’t hurt to refrigerate your masks before use.
