Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting Gabriella Demetriades’ label DEME at The SC Pod, our pop-up at Olive Bar & Kitchen, Mahalaxmi.

SC is a fan of DEME’s structured, well-tailored, uber-stylish designs that are all things contemporary chic! We especially love the draped pieces.

Here’s how our conversation with the talented stylist-turned-model-turned-designer went.

SC: At what point in your modelling career did you decide to become a fashion designer?
Gabriella: The plan was always to design. Before I began modelling, I worked as a stylist and had ambitions to start my own label. Doing so in South Africa proved to be harder than I envisioned, so India was a great destination to model as well as lay the foundation for my label.

SC: If DEME was a person, how would you describe him/her?

Gabriella: She would be strong, elegant, sensual, intelligent with a great sense of style and warmth.

SC: Describe your own personal style in a few words.

Gabriella: Timeless yet sensuous, fun and comfortable.

SC: What was your inspiration for this collection?

Gabriella: The modern woman. Someone that wants to play around with silhouettes, who wants to mix and match pieces, who wants to create her own style and not look like it’s come off a hanger. I wanted women to experiment, and at the same time have pieces that translated well from day to night and occasion to occasion.

SC: What is your favorite piece from your latest collection and why?

Gabriella: The savannah cape, it’s so versatile. You can wear it with and over anything, with a slinky dress under for a night out, with jeans and crop to ramp up day wear. It’s a must own. I have one in four colours!

SC: 3 absolute must-haves every girl should have in her closet this season?

Gabriella: A versatile oversized cape, the perfect jeans( in my case a pair of one teaspoon denim ripped jeans) and a crop top in a solid colour.

SC: If the world is ending tomorrow, what would you wear to the doomsday party tonight?

Gabriella: I like to look like a warrior. So my new favourite is the column neck crop top with a pair of high waisted shorts and a pair of aquazurra tassel boots

SC: If not a model or a designer, then what else would you have chosen as a career?

Gabriella: The one answer I don’t have.

Our guess is that she is already following a career that’s a perfect fit!
