House Of Chic, started by Jinali Sutariya and Heena Surani is a multi-designer pop up store that launched in Los Angeles in 2012. Since then, they have curated pop up stores in major fashion capitals of the world, working with high end designers and taking Indian fashion to the global markets.
House of Chic has recently launched an in-house accessory line which is an eclectic mix of dark, outspoken, edgy and chic. This talented designer duo loves their accessories dark and vintage. Most of their accessories feature skulls and spikes and the main aim of this label is to make dark jewelry wearable in the Indian market.
We caught up with Jinali Sutariya and here’s what she had to tell us.
SC: How did you come up with the idea of pop-up stores in major fashion capitals of the world?
The market in USA and Dubai has always been very welcoming. The idea of a pop-up stores was pushed as showcasing 50 indian designers under 1 roof in the west was never done or seen before.
SC: What is your inspiration for your designs?
Heena and I both are highly inspired by Alexander McQueen. We love darkness in our jewelry and love adding skulls and spikes everywhere. Skulls is a trend that is highly appreciated by the market in India, but only off the shelf. They don’t buy it very easily. We plan on changing the mentality that ‘dark jewelry’ is not wearable.
SC: Describe your own style in a word.
Edgy. Goth. Chic.
SC: Your favourite piece from your latest collection and why?
My favorite piece is the skull team-up cuff. They can be added to any simple everyday outfit as well as a nightout.
SC: 3 accessories that, according to you, are absolute must-haves this season?
Team-up Bracelets/cuffs. An edgy palm ring. A hand harness.
SC: How important do you think correct styling with accessories is to an outfit?
It makes or breaks an outfit. Even a $1000 Dolce & Gabbana gown would look off if not styled with the right accessories.
