New York Fashion Week was a frenzied flurry of high fashion streetstyle, Front Row celebrity tracking, skinny models and pretty clothes! But we’re much more interested in the top trends that surfaced as absolute must-haves for the Spring/Summer 2015.
Here are the fashion trends that emerged as defining features of the season’s staple style. Make sure you have these in your closet by the time summer rolls around next year!
Fringed Assets
Fringe was featured in so many of the collections, we lost count. Fringed tops, fringed pants, fringed accessories, fringed everything! We especially loved Project Runway alumni Christian Siriano’s fringed pencil skirt and Proenza Schouler’s fringed maxi dress.

Floral Bloom
As Miranda Priestly would utter, her voice dripping with heavy sarcasm, “Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking!” But the fact of the matter is, Miranda that florals are – and always will remain – spring staples. Floral prints are to spring dressing what Cashmere is to winters. Our favourite at NYFW this season? Oscar de la Renta’s (very pretty) floral cocktail dress.

Le Smokin Variations
A lot of designers (Altuzarra, Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang for instance) sent down the runway “Le Smokin” inspired suits, all sleek and sharply tailored.

Asymmetry
Asymmetrical designs were spotted quite frequently on the runway this season. Slanting hemlines and unconventional placates made for asymmetrical edges. We feel this new trend will be a fresh change and break the monotony of conventional summer dressing.

Peplum All The Way!
Okay, this trend just won’t go away! It’s been years now, but it seems the designers are not done with it yet. Be it classic (like Monique Lhuillier’s) or with a new twist (like DKNY’s) but the peplum is well on its way to becoming a classic trend for all seasons.

Bohemian Revisited
Long, flowing dresses, romantic prints and loose silhouettes were abundant in the SS15 collections this fashion week. If you’re a free-spirited human infected with incurable wanderlust and romance is your drug, the Bohemian trend is for you! And there’s plenty to choose from.

Crop Tops For Life! (Or At Least The Next Season)
So apparently, we’re not yet done with showing off bare midriffs, and hence, the crop top trend is carried into the spring of 2015 too. Guess will have to seriously think about losing that last pound from our tummies now (sigh!).

70’s Redux
The colourful 70s were revisited this season by a lot of designers, like Anna Sui and Tommy Hilfiger. Hippies-inspired contemporary designs with colourful prints were pretty much the designers’ fresh take on the 1970s.

Sporty Chic
The sporty clothing trend doesn’t seem to be dying anytime soon. The designers all seem to be obsessed with creating newer versions of high fashion sweats that are meant to be worn outside the gym. Also, awesome bomber jackets in light fabrics are the way to go this spring!

Print Clash
Print on print layering, even top to bottom prints are huge this season and a sure addition to our summer closets. Our recommendation, try the Altuzarra style stripe clash for your uppers and lowers. Very chic.
