We caught up with the actor, sports presenter, and designer Mandira Bedi who launched her multi-designer retail space, M-The Store (www.mthestore.com).
StyleCracker: Tell us about your new venture.
Mandira Bedi: Currently we have 30 designers on board. First it was just a sari store but I realised that people like tunics and other Indo-western styles as well. That is when I felt that I should go into that space.
SC: What are the collections that will be stocked at your store? What’s your favorite?
MB: I like stuff that is fun and easy to wear. The store will stock Indian ethnic wear, western wear, Indo-Western, accessories, Kurtis along with the saris. We also have a bridal space with the festive season coming up. In addition to my own collection, the store will house renowned brands such as Gavin Miguel, Charu Parasher, Harsh Harsh, Kiran Ajmera, Terence Lobo, Palanquine and many more. It’s really difficult to choose just one favourite. I think Gavin Miguel has amazing silhouettes; I also love the lehengas from Anisha Shetty and the festive collection from Veda Raheja.
SC: Tell us more about your latest collection.
MB: I have always done constructs and taken inspiration from geometric spaces, for my saris. My latest collection carries on that mood board. I have also experimented with heavy embroidery.
SC: Your personal style advice?
MB: I like classic pieces and cuts. Don’t go for a particular style or a cut which is trendy at the moment. Rather go for something which will suit your body type and personality.
