Name to Know: Nimish Shah
An alumnus of London School of Fashion, Nimish Shah learnt the trade while working with Chloe, Jigsaw and Burberry before moving back to Mumbai to launch his own label in 2010. Shift by Nimish Shah filled a void in the market hungry for cool separates that spoke to the modern woman.
But before you go into a fantasy of edgy tops and skirts, take a minute to look at his past collections. Sure his pieces are cool but in a librarian chic sort of way that translates into classic shift dresses (naturally), offbeat detailing, conservative hemlines and exquisite prints. This Mumbai boy always includes floral prints in his collections earning him major brownie points!
Working largely with artisan fabrics, Shah often employs khadi, cottons, and signature weaves to create his designs. His AW’14 collection marked the debut of embellishments for him with crystal drops, beads and even lace under slips that took his designs to another level. We approve!
The velvet skirt, his capsule collection of hand knit sweaters for Bungalow 8 and the much-photographed floral maxi!
Kalki Koechlin may have started it, but then it was no stopping the Shift sightings. From Kareena Kapoor Khan at a promo, to fellow designers and even stylists themselves, it seems everyone wants to own a piece!
Available at: Pernia’s Pop-up, Ensemble (Delhi) and Le Mill, Mumbai.
