Don’t let those flawless catwalk models and Instagram fashionistas fool you – walking in heels is a difficult task. If you’ve ever wondered how all the stars get their walk just right, StyleCracker has got you covered. Learn how to strut your stuff in just 5 easy steps.

1. FIND THE RIGHT FIT

Ever found the perfect pair of shoes only to find out the store doesn’t stock your size? Don’t try and compensate by going up or down a size. Shoes that are too loose or too tight can do much more damage than you think, so you’re better off finding your size online or at another store. (And here’s an extra tip – if you’re purchasing online, always make sure to try on the shoes at a physical store first, or read up on the website’s return policy!)

2. START OFF WITH COMFORTABLE HEELS

Even though you might be shunned away from the fashion world, it’s wisest to begin with wedge, or kitten heels. Work your way up to those six inch stilettos – by when you’ll be a master at walking with heels on.

3. BREAK YOUR HEELS IN

Practice walking around in your heels while you’re doing errands around the house, or just play dress-up for a few minutes. This will help you break your shoes in by expanding to fit your feet just right.

4. TAKE SMALLER STEPS

As much as we’d all like to be those divas who can run in heels, taking smaller steps first will help any beginner. Tiny steps from heel to toe will help you stay stable, and will also help alleviate any stress on the balls of your feet.

5. CATWALK

Ever notice how runway models always look so poised? That’s because they practice walking in a straight line, with one foot in front of the other. Pretend like you’re walking the ramp by straightening your back and extending your legs, and you’re sure to stand tall in any pair of heels.
